UK Settlement Visa - Exam Requirement, English Language Test & Minimum A1 Level English language Requirement - IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, ESOL tests
Those looking to enter the UK as a spouse will have to demonstrate basic English at A1 level, the same level required for skilled workers admitted under the Skilled Tier of the Points Based System.
A spouse coming from outside Europe will need to provide evidence to the UK Border Agency that they have passed an English language test with one of the UK Border Agency’s approved test providers with their visa application.
According to current rules spousal visa applicants already have to meet a range of criteria before being allowed to enter the UK. All applicants must show their marriage or partnership is genuine and that they can support themselves financially.
Whether you are married in the UK or overseas, the non-UK partner must apply for a two year settlement visa to come and live in the UK as a spouse. At the end of the two years they can apply to the UK Border Agency for indefinite leave to remain.
Spouses applying for indefinite leave to remain after completing their two-year period of temporary residence will still need to fulfil the Knowledge of Life and Language in the UK test. This is in addition to this new basic English language requirement which forms part of their initial application.
Those who are seeking to settle in the UK through a marriage visa, fiancé visa or settlement visa are required to prove that they have minimum A1 level of English by taking one of the IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, ESOL exams. Any settlement application filed without a certificate proving minimum A1 level of English will be refused. You may not have to take such an exam if you are graduated from an accredited university where classes are taught in English.

You can apply to any one of the authorised test centres located in Izmir as listed above in order to sign up for and easily take KET (Key English Test), which will meet minimum A1 level English language proficiency requirement for a UK settlement visa. If you think your level of English is not high enough to take this exam, then you may inquire about private lessons or courses at these centres.
If you think your level of English is higher than A1 and want to take the English language proficiency test at an earlier date, then your third alternative in Izmir might be to take TOEFL or TOEIC exam.
